July 2016 - March 2018

Although neither a cyclist perse, riding from our house in Portland, Oregon to the southernmost point of Patagonia seemed like a neat way to disrupt careers and family planning.
It was actually Tara's idea.
One that Aidan warmed up to over time.
We'll never know for sure if it was the relationship ultimatum or an increased fondness for flightless birds that eventually put the plan into motion.
Either way, Aidan was in.
With our 5x5 storage unit neatly Tetris'd to maximum capacity, we chose a completely arbitrary departure date and hit the road.

Ushuaia's famous welcome sign confirms that you've made it to "fin del mundo"—the end of the world. After an impatient tourist took a shitty photo of us, we decided this to be a more fitting announcement that we will no longer be ridi
We're not there yet. Our celebratory penguin post necessitated roughly a week detour in the "wrong" direction—East to the Atlantic coast. We felt smug having 250,000 pairs of Magellanic penguins to ourselves until we turned to face 40
Pretty big day down here. 🐧🐧🐧🐧#portlandtopenguins
We shared a sense of relief riding away from the last of the mega Patagonia attractions. Although one of the most impressive vistas of the trip, Torres del Paine shows the wear of its 200,000 annual visitors. #portlandtopenguins
Maoché showed us the way across a section of no man's land between Chilean and Argentine border immigration posts. The route—meant for horses—utilizes a private sheep bridge and crosses various rivers. While we're not actually sure
For the first time on the entire trip, we are smack dab in the middle of peak tourist season. Our lack of planning has worked out thus far, but now—in the face of heinous crowds—we are forced to counter the mega attractions with some out-
Mt. Fitz Roy towering behind our picnic zone. Clear skies, no wind. 🙌🏼 We've pedaled almost a year and a half for this dangling carrot. It's just as incredible as we imagined it would be. #portlandtopenguins
Pato-gonia. This patito waddled into our New Years Day lamb roast and stole a few hearts. #portlandtopenguins
If the wind and rain are coming from the right direction, three walls is all you to need to feel at home. Unsanctioned Carretera Austral refugio. #portlandtopenguins
This morning we finished the Carretera Austral in Villa O'Higgins—a tiny village with only one option to continue South—a 15-passenger boat, across a very long lake. Unfortunately, unfavorable winds have closed the port and stacked up fiv
We've shared a twin-sized home for the entirety of 2017. In 2018—a bigger house. #portlandtopenguins
Tara rode into the ditch numerous times blue water rubbernecking. Here, she's more concerned with my inability to shield potential lens drizzle.🕵🏻‍♀️ #portlandtopenguins
A memorable Christmas spent outrunning a storm around Chile's largest lake. It caught us just in time to necessitate Christmas dinner in the tent. The gifts came one by one—drop by drop—as we learned the limits of our rain fly. ☔️ #portla
The weather has finally lifted after a spooky couple of days. We pedaled out of Villa Santa Lucía Saturday morning, about ten minutes before a fatal landslide wiped out much of the village. Oblivious and intent on getting somewhere warmer/drye
Bodies are feeling the consequences of 15+ hours of daylight. Make that seventeen with twilight. 😅 #portlandtopenguins
